A Message from the First SelectmanFirst Selectman, Ken Kellogg

Founded in 1823, Monroe is an outstanding community of nearly 20,000 residents. Monroe offers award-winning schools, safe neighborhoods, beautiful parks, and growth in local business and industry. We offer the convenience of several restaurants and retail shopping while maintaining a New England, small-town charm.

Thank you for visiting the Monroe website; we continue to make more information and services available online. If you have any suggestions to improve our site, please contact me.

2/8/2017 - CT Snow Sculpture Competition Postponed to 2018

Date: 1/24/2017

Due to an unseasonably warm 2017 winter preventing the production and stockpiling of snow, the Town of Monroe, CT’s Economic Development Commission is disappointed to announce the postponing of the Inaugural State of CT Snow Sculpting Competition and Winter Fun Festival to 2018.

This decision was difficult due to the expected positive economic impact to the area and desire to give Connecticut residents something fun to do in “at home” the midst of winter.

We apologize for any inconvenience this decision has caused to you.

Monroe's planning team will be working over the next 11 months with experts from other surrounding state and the national competitions to address warm weather challenges so that we will be able to host Connecticut's Inaugural Snow Sculpting Competition and Winter Fun Festival regardless of what Mother Nature offers in 2018. We are optimistic that we will not face this unseasonable weather again but should that occur, we'll be ready!

A special thank-you to the town departments, community resources and numerous volunteers that have assisted to date the EDC with planning and have agreed to continue planning next year's event: CERT, Police Dept, Monroe Fire Marshall, Monroe Firehouse, Monroe Senior Center, Boy Scout Troop 63, Board of Education, Monroe's Arts and Culture Council, WMNR, Lake Zoar Drive In, Two Planks Theater, Wholesale Computers, Monarch Landscaping, Project Warmth, friends and family of EDC members, all the area restaurants and businesses participating and especially the sponsors which have committed to making this event a success. Thank you, again for your support for this event.
