UPCOMING PRESIDENTIAL PREFERENCE PRIMARIES
A Presidential Preference Primary is an election where voters in a political party vote for the candidate of that party that they would like to be their presidential candidate in the upcoming General Election. Only registered Democrats or Republicans may vote in these Primaries.
Democratic and Republican Presidential Preference Primaries will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, 6 AM to 8 PM.
NEW! ALL VOTING on April 2 will take place at ONE SINGLE POLLING LOCATION for Districts 1, 2, 3 & 4:
St Jude’s School, 707 Monroe Turnpike
NEW! EARLY VOTING for these Primaries will be available March 26, 27, 28 & 30, 2024, 10 AM to 6 PM at Town Hall, 7 Fan Hill Road, Monroe.

Deadline for unaffiliated voters who want to vote during the early voting period to enroll in a party.
Voter Registration for Early Voting
If you are not yet registered but want to vote during the early voting period before the Presidential Preference Primary, file your voter registration application (for a party holding a primary) with the Registrars of Voters in your town by noon on the business day before the day you want to vote.
April 1, 2024 at Noon
Deadline for registering in person with the Registrars of Voters or town clerk in your town of residence to vote on April 2.
Deadline for unaffiliated voters to enroll in a party in person for voting on April 2.
The easiest and quickest way to register to vote is online, if you have a valid CT driver’s license, learner’s permit or non-driver photo ID card issued by the CT DMV. Click here to register online. Online application deadline for the Primaries is March 15, 2024.
You may also print a voter registration card here and mail it to the Registrars of Voters’ Office at Town Hall, 7 Fan Hill Road, Monroe. Mailed applications must be postmarked by March 15, 2024.
If you plan to register to vote in person, you may do so at the Registrar of Voters’ Office at Town Hall, 7 Fan Hill Road, Monroe until Monday, April 1, 2024 by Noon. Please bring ID and proof of residence.
The Registrars of Voters will also be holding a special enrollment session on Friday, March 15, 2024 at 12 – 2 PM in the Registrars of Voters’ Office at Town Hall. You may register to vote at this session. Please bring ID and proof of residence. The Registrar of Voters will also hear requests at this session by persons removed for adding their names to the registry list.
There will be no Same Day Registration for these Primaries.

The mission of the Monroe Town Clerk’s Office is to provide the citizens of Monroe quality service in a courteous and efficient manner while conforming to State of Connecticut General Statutes, Secretary of the State of Connecticut and the Monroe Town Charter. Additional responsibilities include elections administration, act as the registrar of vital statistics, service veterans in conjunction with the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs, manage public records, maintain and publish municipal ordinances/town code, notice and record Town Meetings and act as custodian of the official Town Seal. The office is a resource for boards, commissions and elected officials.
Primary Programs & Services
- Recording and permanently storing land records and maps.
- State’s agent for permits and certificates and registrar of vital statistics. Issuance of liquor permits, notary public certificates, hunting and fishing licenses, trade name certificates, birth, marriage and death certificates, burial permits and dog licenses.
- Elections law administration through the Secretary of the State of Connecticut. Generates documents involving absentee ballots, sample ballots, creating the list of offices to be filled, candidate committees and campaign financing and legal ads.
- Serves as the Veterans Service Contact for the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affair.
- Manage appointed and elected officials term dates. Keeper of the record for agendas, voting records and minutes of boards and commissions following the Freedom of Information Act.
- Maintain Municipal Ordinances/Town Code as well as clerk for Town Meetings.

Following is a list of qualifications that permit you to vote by absentee:
- Active Service in the Armed Forces of the United States
- Absence from the town of residence
- Sickness
- Religious tenets forbid secular activity on the day of the Primary
- Physical disability

The Town Clerk’s Office is available between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
