Arbor Day Celebration
Members of Girl Scout Troops 34444 and 34266 assembled at Great Hollow Lake in Wolfe Park April 29—the Saturday after Arbor Day—and planted six authentic American chestnut trees in a ceremony marking Monroe's designation by the U.S. Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA for the 13th consecutive year. The trees were donated by Tony and Janet DeCarlo of Newtown and were planted north of the lake with the assistance of Russ Tice's ground crew in Monroe's Parks and Recreation Department.
