Conservation Commission

The Commission is dedicated to enriching the quality of life in Monroe by protecting the community's outdoor assets and water resources.

Arbor Day Celebration

Members of Girl Scout Troops 34444 and 34266 assembled at Great Hollow Lake in Wolfe Park April 29—the Saturday after Arbor Day—and planted six authentic American chestnut trees in a ceremony marking Monroe's designation by the U.S. Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA for the 13th consecutive year. The trees were donated by Tony and Janet DeCarlo of Newtown and were planted north of the lake with the assistance of Russ Tice's ground crew in Monroe's Parks and Recreation Department. Shown here, clockwise from the lower left, Lauren Breyan, Grace Yeager, Maya Fox, Katelyn Alix, Abby Kellogg, Libby McHugh, Ava Tornay, Evelyn Goyette and Park Ranger David Solek who supervised the activities.

Pequonnock River Steamside Buffer Remediation

The goal of this project is to connect segments of existing trails along the Pequonnock River to create a continuous green way from Long Island Sound and Downtown Bridgeport, through Trumbull, to the Monroe-Newtown town line.

Maintaining Your Septic System - A Guide for Homeowners

Preventing groundwater pollution from failing septic systems is a priority for us in Monroe. Contamination of the groundwater source can lead to the pollution of local wells, streams, lakes, and ponds- exposing family, friends, and neighbors to waterborne diseases and other serious health risks.
